DYING TO TRY

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

When oh when is this new Ben & Jerry’s flavor, Late Night Snack, inspired by Jimmy Fallon, coming to a bodega near me? (Not so subtle hint to husband who subscribes to my posts: Bring this home!)

It has caramel swirl and chocolate covered potato chip clusters!

THREE TWENTY EIGHT

I’m loving this new blog. A little cooking, lots of shopping and the aesthetic is so perfectly restrained. I want these Japanese paper balloons for Louella!

Smitten Kitchen Goo

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Deb Perelman’s food blog, Smitten Kitchen, is utterly charming. Her writing is witty, funny, a little self-deprecating; it has beautiful photography.

And I do love a food writer who is willing to write about feeding kids. Let’s face it, writing about kids can turn off a good portion of your audience. How many friends have you heard say, “I love their kid, but that’s ALL they talk about now.”

I, however, have a kid now, and since I take food pretty seriously (if you call hot dog taste tests serious), I was pretty pumped to see that she posts every now and again as Smitten Kitchen Goo about feeding her kid — in a way that’s just as charming.

What Katie Ate, I want to eat…

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Blogging it seems, it not always easy. It’s, of course, easy enough to get lost on the web; there’s plenty to keep my attention, on which I can waste countless hours. What? Naptime is over!? I haven’t done a freaking thing but jump from here-to-there on the interweb. Dammit. I’m not even showered! Finding something really mind-blowing? Well, that’s substantially more difficult.

And when I do, I’m dying to share it. Like today (*hurrah!*) I stumbled upon Katie Quinn Davie’s blog, What Katie Ate which displays her amazing food/styling and photography. The super-contrasty images of the unbelievably delicious-looking food call my name. Doesn’t this purple-y Chocolate Beetroot Cake look rich and amazing? And Strawberry Sauce Sundaes? Hello!

IKEA Cookbook

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

This is some amazing food styling for a new cookbook IKEA is putting out. Is it me or is there a lot of butter going on? For a cookbook called roughly “Homemade is Best,” it sure doesn’t look like the healthiest of fare… [via Kottke via Today and Tomorrow]

Home Ec

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

An interesting article in the L.A. Times on the evolution of Home Ec classes. At a time when pop culture is embracing D.I.Y., craft, the maker, — not to mention epidemic levels of diabetes and obesity in our country — perhaps it’s not as antiquated line of study as it sometimes seems.
