WOOP!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

I’m pretty jazzed to see that our artist friend Glenn Ligon is going to have a retrospective at the Whitney next month. I met Glenn years ago when I worked at Dieu Donné Papermill in Manhattan and we collaborated on two projects. I personally think him too young in age but plenty old enough in accomplishment for such a thing, and I’m pretty excited to see the show. Especially since our friend Matt Dilling’s neon shop, Lite Brite Neon, collaborated with Glenn on the “Negro Sunshine” piece which will hang in the window of the museum. Rad.

Dental Paintings?

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Akin to tattoos, it seems dental paintings can go so right or so wrong. Well, make that kinda right and oh so very, very wrong.

This rooster? Kinda beautiful. Not sure I’d want it in my mouth, but the artistry is pretty amazing and it’s a great image.

Elvis: I’m on the fence. I do love the King.

Simon Cowell? Amy Winehouse? David Letterman? Not so much.

Still, I’m kind of fascinated. In a dental-scrimshaw sorta way. But the thought of electing to grind a tooth down for a crown? That’s a level of hardcore that I’m just not ready for.

Tattoo Baby

Friday, August 27th, 2010

There have been a lot of “When are you getting the baby her first tattoo?” comments floating around about our 5 month old, so this Jason Clay Lewis piece, Drill Baby, feels like a visual representation of a lot of household jokes. Creepy.

There’s been some Halloween costume talk, though I have a feeling we might be booted out of the neighborhood.

America in Color

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

My husband, Willy, sent along these incredibly haunting photos of post-Depression rural America from the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information.  I’m conflicted by my interest in the styles and the palpable hardship. via The Denver Post
