HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOU!

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Louella just turned one, and I finally feel like I’m starting to get my life in order. Really it’s a new semblance of order and a lovely one at that. She gets to be more and more fun every day. And I’m finally finding a little work/baby balance – keeping up with Love & Victory and doing an increasing amount of freelance design work. What I want to know is how do parents everywhere juggle multiple jobs and multiple babies and not bemoan their travails more? Please tell me it’s hard for you, too!

Despite the craziness of our days, we wanted to have a party for Miss Lou. Willy’s family came up from Charleston and mine in from NJ, and we feted her with the tried-and-true: pizza and chocolate cake. As you can see from the pics, it was a hit. And we were super excited to see her reaction to her present: a shiny, red piano!

Happy Birthday, Lou Lou. xoxo

BUY THIS

and encourage good design for kids. This Gap rashguard is the cutest ever. I love a good Breton stripe, and this looks like a 20′s swim costume.

Sorbet Palette

This interior, by Tas-ka makes me smile. The palette is so child-like, it’s a little disorienting. In photos, it almost looks like a dollhouse.

Brie Harrison

I’m more than a little obsessed with Brie Harrison‘s prints. Ah-mazingly folksy and modern at the same time. These would work really well with our black & white print sofa pillows…

How Sweet

Friday, March 4th, 2011

How sweet are these wooden platform sandals? And at $69, I don’t have to feel guilty about the purchase!

AT LAST

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Never thought I’d be so excited about a doorstop. But the little stacks of cardboard Willy rigs to keep some of the doors open in our old, Brooklyn building are just not that classy. And now Lou is starting to want to open and shut doors and it would be nice to have something to keep her little fingers from being slammed in one of them. These doorstops by Thorsten Van Elten look great and are $14. Win win.

DYING TO TRY

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

When oh when is this new Ben & Jerry’s flavor, Late Night Snack, inspired by Jimmy Fallon, coming to a bodega near me? (Not so subtle hint to husband who subscribes to my posts: Bring this home!)

It has caramel swirl and chocolate covered potato chip clusters!

WOOP!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

I’m pretty jazzed to see that our artist friend Glenn Ligon is going to have a retrospective at the Whitney next month. I met Glenn years ago when I worked at Dieu Donné Papermill in Manhattan and we collaborated on two projects. I personally think him too young in age but plenty old enough in accomplishment for such a thing, and I’m pretty excited to see the show. Especially since our friend Matt Dilling’s neon shop, Lite Brite Neon, collaborated with Glenn on the “Negro Sunshine” piece which will hang in the window of the museum. Rad.
